Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information this website collects, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to be readable rather than impressive.

Who is responsible for your data

To be confirmed

This website is operated by Jingyao, an independent Mandarin teacher, in connection with private online Chinese lessons.

The registered contact details for privacy requests are still to be published on this page. Until then, please send any request through the contact form or by direct message on Instagram, and it will be actioned.

What we collect

Only what you type into a form. Depending on which form you use, that can include: your first name or full name, your email address, your current Chinese level, your main learning goal, your preferred language for explanations, your time zone, how many lessons per week you are considering, and any message you write.

The trial-lesson form also records which learning path you were looking at, or the result of the quiz if you took it, so that Jingyao can prepare something relevant for your first lesson.

We do not ask for and do not want payment card details, identity documents, or any other sensitive personal information through this website.

Why we use it

To reply to you, to arrange and deliver lessons, and to send you a resource you specifically asked for.

If you tick the newsletter or resource consent box, to send you occasional practical Chinese tips. Every one of those emails contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect your lessons.

We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.

Legal basis

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you: we rely on your consent for marketing emails and downloadable resources, and on legitimate interests or the performance of a contract for replying to enquiries and delivering lessons you have booked.

How long we keep it

Enquiry messages are kept while there is an active conversation and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back.

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.

You can ask for your information to be deleted at any time and it will be, unless we are legally required to keep a record of a transaction.

Cookies and local storage

This website sets no advertising or tracking cookies of its own.

It does use your browser's local storage for two small, purely functional things: remembering your language preference, and remembering that you have already closed the trial-lesson prompt so it does not reappear. Neither is shared with anyone and both are cleared when you clear your browser data.

Analytics are optional and switched off unless the site owner has explicitly enabled them. When enabled, Google Analytics and/or the Meta Pixel may set their own cookies to measure how the site is used; you will be asked for consent before that happens.

If you play an embedded Instagram post or an embedded booking calendar, that third party may set its own cookies. Their policies apply to those, and both are only loaded once you interact with them.

Third-party services

To be confirmed

Instagram (Meta) — when embedded content is displayed or you follow a link to a post.

The booking calendar provider used for scheduling trial lessons, once one is in place.

The email provider used to send resources and the newsletter, once one is in place.

The website's hosting provider, which processes standard server logs including IP addresses for security and reliability.

The exact providers will be named on this page as soon as each account is confirmed.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy of it, or to withdraw consent for marketing. Just ask — you do not need to give a reason and there is no charge.

If you believe your request has not been handled properly, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Children

To be confirmed

This website is not directed at children, and forms should be completed by an adult. Whether lessons are offered to under-18s is still to be confirmed; if they are, a parent or guardian will need to arrange them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the bottom of the page changes with it. Material changes affecting people already on the mailing list will be announced by email.
